Food is available through our hot community meal or through our emergency food pantry.

Saint Ben’s Community Meal, a ministry of Capuchin Community Services, will welcome guests back for indoor dining on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. This follows several weeks of takeaway-only service in response to the Omicron variant.

Meal: Referred to as Milwaukee's largest regular potluck dinner, the St. Ben's Community Meal is served six nights a week, Sunday to Friday, from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m..  All are welcome.  The meal hall is located on 930 W. State Street, between 9th & 10th Streets, across from the Milwaukee County Jail, at the lower level of St. Benedict the Moor church. The entrance is at the St. Anthony Apartments.

Food Pantry: The Emergency Food Pantry is located at the House of Peace site, 1702 W. Walnut, Open Monday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. to Noon, and 1:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. Available to zip codes 53205, 53206, and 53233. Please bring your picture ID, a current proof of residence (address), proof of income, and ID for everyone in the household. If you need food after hours, call 414.773.0211 (from your cell phone) or 211 from your landline.  

Clothing: The Capuchin Clothing Closet is located at the House of Peace site, 1702 W. Walnut, and is open Monday through Friday 1:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M (appointment is required).  Please bring a picture ID.

Health: UWM House of Peace Community Nursing Center is located in the lower level of the House of Peace site. Staffed by nurses and student nurses from UWM's College of Nursing-Institute for Urban Health Partnerships, they provide health screenings, wellness programs, health education, health information and referral, and nurse case management services for guests. Hours- Monday through Thursday, 9:00a to 4:00p; Friday, 9a-Noon. Appointments preferred, call (414) 933-1590 to make an appointment.

St. Ben’s Clinic, 1027 N. 9th Street Clinic, provides health care to homeless adults and adults who have a history or risk of homelessness and are not currently being seen at another site for their health care. Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday - 9a to 4p.
Appointments only - Tuesday 9a-1p; Friday 9a to noon. Call 414-765-0606 to schedule an appointment.

Legal: The House of Peace site provides Marquette University Legal Clinic, Every Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. No appointments or phone calls, walk-in only. Issues ranging from family law (including child custody, child support, foster care, domestic violence and guardianship), landlord-tenant issues, employment issues, consumer law and a host of other legal issues. The clinic does not offer services in the criminal law area. 

St. Ben's Community Meal site offers legal consultation on the second & fourth Tuesdays of the month.

Guest Advocate Services is located at St. Ben's Community Meal site, 930 W. State Street, Milwaukee, WI 53233. On M-F, 1p-4:30p, we provide our guests:

  • Co-Pays
    We supply our guests funds to cover co-pay costs for necessary prescriptions
     
  • Shower Program
    We provide showers and a clean set of clothing to those who are in need

On Wednesdays, 1p-4:30p, we provide the following at our St. Ben's Community Meal site, 930 W. State Street, Milwaukee, WI 53233

  • Hygiene Items
    Each month, Wednesdays only 1-4:30 pm. We distribute a bag of hygiene items including soap, toothbrush & toothpaste, razor, and other similar items
     
  • Bus Tickets
    We distribute bus tickets, Wednesdays only 1-4:30 pm, to assist guests who need transportation to doctor appointments. 
     
  • Eye Glasses
    Eye tests and eye glasses are available Wednesdays only 1-4:30 pm
     
  • Birth Certificates & IDS
    An advocate is available to assist you in obtaining birth certificates (Wednesdays only, 1-4:30 pm) and IDs (M-F during our Front Door Ministry hours).

Spiritual Care: Capuchin Community Services is a ministry of the Capuchin Province of St. Joseph, and is ready to offer spiritual care to anyone who seeks it. The House of Peace site offers weekday morning prayer in the chapel, 6:40 AM. St. Ben's Parish, a Capuchin parish, invite all who hunger for social justice to join us each Sunday, 11 AM.

Social Workers: Our House of Peace site's social worker is available Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Short term counseling and referral. Appointments necessary. Call: (414) 933-1300, ext. 15. St. Ben's Clinic also has a social worker, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday - 9am to 4p; Appointments only - Tuesday 9am-1pm; Friday 9am to noon.
